Growing up Mike moved with sloth-like urgency (only sometimes less briskly) and grinned groovy contentment without ever being stoned. In his early forties he went to the doctor on Monday then the mortician that Friday, shocking everyone with his breakneck velocity toward ever after.

again, one that is not funny in it's content but the delivery is priceless.
So matter-of-fact and so surprising, and shocking to us too. Sad.
Can't believe how you deliver an entire novel in 44 words. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!
oh, this was great ... i'm standing in the shadows and trying to watch and learn how it's done ... what a great example of a beginning, middle, and end
